After using their services multiple times (for Schengen, UK, and once for Canada), I can say this: VFS Global is a private company that acts as an outsourcing partner for many embassies and consulates. They don’t decide whether you get the visa. That’s for sure still up to the embassy. Their job is to handle the administrative stuff: booking appointments, collecting documents, taking biometrics, and forwarding your application.
Who is VFS Global and what is its role?
Established in 2001, VFS Global is the world’s largest outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions. Essentially, embassies and consulates do not want to manage thousands of people walking through their doors daily. They outsource the “front-end” tasks — collecting forms, checking passports, and taking fingerprints — to VFS Global visa services. This allows diplomats to focus solely on the “back-end” task: deciding whether to approve or deny your visa.
To answer the most common question: is VFS Global legit? Yes, absolutely. They partner with 67 client governments and operate over 3,300 application centres across 153 countries. In the UAE, for example, there are several convenient centres — the biggest ones are in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. If you live in the Emirates, you’ll most likely visit the VFS Global Dubai centre.
Visa appointments, documents, and biometrics
The process usually looks like this:
- You fill out the visa application form online (on the embassy’s website).
- You book an VFS Global appointment there.
- On the scheduled day, you go to the centre with all required documents.
- They check your papers, take your biometrics (fingerprints + photo), and send everything to the embassy.
Current waiting times (as of early 2026):

What VFS Global cannot do

- Give you any guarantees about approval
