Atlantis The Royal is not just another “luxury addition” to the city’s skyline; it is a $1.6 billion statement of intent that took 14 years to complete. This hotel was opened in 2023 on the Palm Jumeirah and currently it is positioned as a high class analogue of the classic Atlantis The Palm. But is it worth the very high price tag? I stayed there to find out.
Where is Atlantis The Royal located?
The hotel sits on the outer crescent of Palm Island, right next to the original Atlantis. The drive from Dubai International Airport (DXB) typically takes 35 to 45 minutes.
On one side you have all the open water of the Arabian Gulf and to your other side, the Dubai skyline. Palm Jumeirah is notorious for traffic during peak hours (5 PM – 8 PM) on the main “trunk” road, so plan your trips to Downtown Dubai (25 minutes) or Dubai Marina (20 minutes) accordingly. The location is quiet and exclusive, but you’ll need a car or taxi for most things outside the resort.

Atlantis The Royal architecture and first impression
The first thing people notice in almost any Atlantis The Royal review is the architecture. And for good reason. The hotel makes a dramatic first impression.
The striking, layered architecture looks like a modern interpretation of cascading waves. It’s bold, photogenic, and very Dubai-ish. The entrance and lobby feel grand and theatrical, with high ceilings, dramatic lighting, and water features everywhere. It’s impressive, but some guests say that: scale can work against intimacy. Because the property is massive, some guests may find it less personal than smaller ultra-luxury resorts.
Rooms and suites at Atlantis The Royal
Rooms start from around 65–70 m² and are modern, elegant, and well-equipped. But there is something truly sensational about our higher categories of accommodation which are the Signatдure Suites and the Overwater Bungalows. The suits are packed with the private infinity pools and wide terraces with a great view to the sea.
Pros:
- First class bedding and extremely comfortable mattresses
- Spacious bathrooms with high-quality products
- Impressive views from most rooms
- Small details like Nespresso machine, nice minibar too, fast Wi-Fi
Cons:
- Standard rooms may seem on the dark side
- Others have alleged that the service levels haven’t always risen to the ultra-luxury positioning.
- Prices are to make you weep. Even the most basic room costs usually start from $800–1,200+ per night
- Pools, beach and leisure
This is where the hotel really shines. There are multiple places to swim, including a spectacular infinity pool with views toward Atlantis The Palm. The private beach is well-maintained with soft sand and calm water. However, during peak season the beach and pool areas can get quite busy.

Spa and wellness
The AWAKEN SPA offers a full wellness program with 17 treatment rooms, a hammam, and hydrotherapy pools. Services range from massages to advanced skincare. Guests highlight the professionalism of staff, though prices are on the higher side compared to other Dubai luxury hotels. However, treatments are very expensive, even by country standards.
Restaurants at Atlantis The Royal
The service and culinary density here are unmatched. With 17 restaurants, the hotel has the highest concentration of celebrity chefs in the world:
- Dinner by Heston Blumenthal: British gastronomy (the “Meat Fruit” is a must-try).
- La Mar by Gastón Acurio: High-end Peruvian ceviche.
- Jaleo by José Andrés: Spanish tapas.
- Ariana’s Persian Kitchen: Refined Iranian flavors.
Breakfast at Gastronomy is a massive operation with live cooking stations for everything from smoked salmon to honeycomb.
The Reality Check: Dinner reservations at the top-tier spots often need to be made 2–3 weeks in advance. Also, dining is expensive, a casual dinner for two with wine will rarely fall below $400.
Who should stay at this hotel
This Dubai hotel is a masterpiece of engineering, but it isn’t for everyone.
Stay here if:
- You want to be at the epicenter of “New Dubai” and social media culture.
- You are a “foodie” who wants Michelin-standard dining without leaving the building.
- You appreciate modern, sharp design over traditional velvet-and-gold luxury.
Avoid here if:
- You prefer “quiet luxury” and intimacy; the hotel can feel like a busy terminal during peak breakfast hours.
- You are on a strict budget; the “hidden” costs of poolside drinks and service charges add up quickly.
Without a doubt Atlantis The Royal Hotel is a high class resort that is comfortably situated on the Palm Jumeirah and can provide you some great views from the rooms.
If you don`t have issues with money and you want to get luxurious suits with Instagram-like pool views can be your choice. It delivers a true “wow” experience, but the extremely high prices and occasional service inconsistencies mean it doesn’t always feel like the best quality in the luxury hotel segment in Dubai. If you want better value or more personalized service, there are other strong contenders in the city.
