UAE Gives Affected Travellers 30 Days to Fix Visa Status or Leave Without Penalties

The UAE has introduced a 30-day grace period for travellers and residents who were unable to leave the country because of recent regional disruptions, giving them time to either regularise their status or depart without overstay fines.

The decision was announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, which said the measure applies to people who had previously been exempted from overstay penalties due to exceptional circumstances in the region. The grace period runs from June 10 to July 9, 2026.

A Temporary Relief Measure for People Affected by Travel Disruptions

The initiative is aimed at people whose visa situation was affected by events beyond their control, including flight suspensions and airspace closures that disrupted travel from the UAE. Earlier, the authorities had waived overstay fines for visa holders, exit permit holders and residents with cancelled visas who could not leave the country from February 28, 2026, because of those disruptions.

Under the new grace period, eligible individuals do not need to complete any additional preliminary procedures before taking action. Those who want to stay in the UAE can use this window to adjust their residency or employment status. Those who plan to leave can depart through the usual procedures without facing overstay-related penalties.

The move gives affected travellers a clear legal pathway after a period of uncertainty. For many foreign nationals, especially those whose visas expired during the disruption period, the grace period may help avoid financial pressure and prevent future immigration complications.

UAE Pushes for Legal Compliance After Regional Conditions Stabilise

According to the authority, the decision is also part of a broader effort to encourage compliance with UAE residency and immigration regulations. Officials said the exceptional conditions that justified the earlier fine exemption no longer apply now that stability has returned to the region.

The grace period therefore acts as a final opportunity for affected individuals to correct their status. For migrants, visitors and residents in Dubai and across the UAE, it is important to follow official channels and complete the required steps before the July 9 deadline.

The measure also reflects the UAE’s approach to managing immigration issues during emergencies. While the country is giving affected people additional time and financial relief, it is also setting a clear timeline for returning to normal visa enforcement.

For anyone impacted by recent travel disruption, the main message is straightforward: use the 30-day window to either legalise your stay or leave the country before penalties resume.
