Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed the route map for the upcoming Dubai Metro Blue Line, marking another major milestone in the city’s public transport expansion. The announcement was made on December 14 through an official video released by the authority.
Above-ground and underground expansion
According to the RTA, the Blue Line will span a total of 30 kilometres, with 14.5 kilometres running above ground and 15.5 kilometres underground. This combination is designed to improve connectivity across the city and provide smoother access between key residential, commercial, and transit hubs.

Stations and launch timeline
Once operational in 2029, the Blue Line will serve 14 stations, including both elevated and underground stops. The planned opening coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro, highlighting the project’s symbolic importance in the evolution of the emirate’s transport network.
Construction progress and targets
The project has advanced rapidly since its groundbreaking ceremony in June. The RTA has confirmed that construction is already 10 percent complete, with a target of reaching 30 percent completion by the end of 2025.
Connecting high-growth communities
The Blue Line has been strategically designed to link high-density, fast-growing, and previously underserved areas directly to Dubai’s existing metro network. A key objective of the route is to improve access to major employment zones and provide a stronger public transport link to the airport.
Strategic interchanges with existing lines
To ensure seamless integration, the Blue Line will include critical interchange stations connecting with the Red and Green Lines. These interchanges will allow passengers to move efficiently across the wider metro system without unnecessary transfers.
Direct access to Dubai International Airport
One of the most significant advantages of the Blue Line is its planned direct connection to Dubai International Airport (DXB). Travel time from major areas along the route to the airport is expected to be around 20 minutes. It has not yet been confirmed whether the line will use the existing Red Line stations at Terminals 1 and 3 or if a new dedicated airport station will be developed.
