Dubai has unveiled plans for the Metro Blue Line, a major expansion of its public transportation network. The new line is designed to improve access across developing communities and better link the city’s eastern and western areas, aligning with broader goals under Dubai Urban Plan 2040.
Route and Key Interchanges
The Blue Line will extend approximately 30 kilometers, connecting strategic locations with 14 stations – 9 elevated and 5 underground. Two major interchange stations will link the new line with existing metro routes:
- Creek Station – interchange with the Green Line
- Centrepoint Station – interchange with the Red Line
Other major stops will include:
- Dubai Festival City
- Dubai Creek Harbour
- Ras Al Khor Industrial Area
- International City 1
- Dubai Silicon Oasis
- Academic City
These areas are expected to see improved transit access, supporting both residential development and commercial activity.
Launch Timeline and Impact
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024, with the Blue Line expected to be operational by 2029. Once completed, it will serve thousands of daily commuters, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen the city’s sustainability goals.
The Blue Line will not only shorten travel times between growing districts but also enhance the overall efficiency of the metro system, making public transport a more attractive option for residents and visitors.
